What do you do when an anonymous whistleblower levels explosive allegations against your most senior civil servant? Hunt them down and punish them, of course.
That, it seems, was the first reaction at the European Economic and Social Committee after 50 letters alleging corruption by the advisory body’s top official surfaced in March, we can reveal. The EESC is an obscure EU institution whose 329 members advise policymakers and operate with an annual budget of €165 million.
