‘Brussels occupation’: Orbán allies slam EU ruling on anti-LGBT law
BUDAPEST – Allies of Hungary’s outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán lashed out at the EU’s top court after it found Budapest breached EU law by restricting minors’ access to LGBT content.
They cast the decision as a politically timed intervention by Brussels, pointing to its publication after Fidesz’s electoral defeat on 12 April. The ruling, issued on Tuesday, had been held back until after the vote.
“Today, the EU officially became a liberal autocracy. Surprise, surprise, judgment published 10 days after the elections,” wrote Rodrigo Ballester, head of the Centre for European Studies at the pro-government Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC).
Balázs Orbán, the prime minister’s political director, said on social media that “the decision is further proof that the EU has shifted toward a woke ideological framework.”
