Marco Rubio to brief EU foreign ministers on Iran war

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will brief the EU’s 27 foreign affairs ministers on the war in Iran and the Strait of Hormuz, his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot told the press on Friday.  

The foreign ministers of the G7 countries met near Paris for a two-day summit, almost one month after the US and Israel launched a war against Iran that has spilled over to the broader Middle East.  

“Marco Rubio has agreed to brief the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council,” Barrot said, adding that foreign ministers will continue to help resolve the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. He did not specify when the briefing would take place. 

Rubio skipped the first day of G7 talks, but briefed his Canadian, French, German, Italian, Japanese and British counterparts about White House goals during a lunch session on the ongoing conflict.

After the meeting, Barrot told the press the US goal was to neutralise Iran’s ballistic missile capabilities.
