BUDGET BRIEF: EU negotiating positions harden up

I’m Victoria Becker and here comes this week’s BUDGET BRIEF on the EU’s next seven-year spending plan.

This week, we’ll examine the European Parliament’s budget committee vote on the MFF interim report and take a look at figures Euractiv was able to see ahead of Wednesday.

Today’s edition also looks at moves by wealthier EU states, which tend to be net contributors to the budget, to gain an advantage over poorer rivals in the battle over access to the bloc’s proposed €400 billion European Competitiveness Fund.

Also, we review the EU’s fiscal rules and Italy’s PM Giorgia Meloni calling to pause budget deficit rules in the wake of the Iran war, MEP appeals for a more renewables-powered Connecting Europe Facility, and more money for space.
