US Democrat warns Trump attacks on EU tech rules boost MAGA agenda
A top US Democrat warned MEPs on Tuesday that the Trump administration’s attacks on EU digital rules are aimed at boosting its MAGA-aligned agenda.
The Trump administration has latched on to the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), branding it as a censorship tool to support its allies and promote far-right parties in Europe, US Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin told MEPs from the Internal Market (IMCO) Committee on Tuesday.
The Trump administration “works hard to promote the MAGA movement in Europe under the guise of defending free speech,” said Raskin, while cracking down on free speech at home.
In the past year, the DSA has become a key target for Washington’s criticism of EU tech rules. In February, the US House of Judiciary Committee – led by Republican Jim Jordan, a close Trump ally – released a report calling the DSA a “foreign censorship tool” and claiming it undermines US free speech principles.
