Iran calls Ukraine ‘legitimate target’ over alleged drone support to Israel
The head of Iran’s parliamentary national security committee, Ebrahim Azizi, said on Saturday that Ukraine could be considered a “legitimate target” after Kyiv allegedly supported Israel with drones.
Writing on social media, Azizi said the “collapsing” country had “effectively become involved in the war”, citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, which recognises the right of a member to act in self-defence if targeted by an armed attack.
He did not provide further information to support the claim that Ukraine had supplied drones to Israel.
The remarks come after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said earlier this week that a group of 11 countries had sought the country’s assistance in countering Shahed-type drones in Tehran’s continued attacks on Gulf states. He did not specify whether Israel was among them.
